CRM on Cloud

This post talks about Cloud computing in view of CRM implementation.

CRM plays a prominent role in all the organizations. There’s no company in the world which doesn’t care about its customers, every organization needs a 360 degree view of their accounts/customers and the account’s activities. CRM does not just manage data or it is not just a Content Management System.  CRM is more about implementing the company’s process over its customer’s data. You can define it in your own terms, but that is what I understood. There are a lot of CRM suites available in the market for CRM implementation. Some of the successful applications before cloud invasion were Oracle Siebel CRM, Sugar, MS Dynamics, SAP CRM, Clarify etc., and Siebel is known for its Database independency and SaaS features.  Even with all these robust applications in market, why did people feel needed? Why did they look out for something new? It’s because implementing CRM in one company is costly, it is so costly that you can not expect the ROI in less than 2 years. Because of the Hardware (Infrastructure), Tools/ Logical Layers (Platforms), finally application suites that they need to buy and to have an expert team looking after its total life cycle. The organizations need simple and affordable solutions. Then they found it in cloud computing. Cloud computing gives them what they need. They can even look for long term solution- “given”, they can look for privacy- “given”, they may want integration- “given”, they may need to back their data up- “given”, they may want everything- “will be given”, just kidding, living on cloud is like living in a rented house, the land lord may pose some restrictions, but they are only supposed to keep the code effective.

When you are planning to implement a cloud as a solution, there are three things you need to know: The cloud can be of public clouds, private clouds and hybrid clouds. Organizations like health and financial institutions do use Private and Hybrid clouds as the data bases, firewalls are in their control.

There are CRM suite providers like – Salesforce, Salesboom, Oracle fusion, Sugar cloud etc., that is not just it, we can buy our custom clouds from service providers like  Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) and use them. It takes good efforts but cheaper option.

(please google for the prices and compare, you will see).

How easy is it to implement a cloud tool in an organization?

It is as simple as opening a Facebook account or a mail account online. Then the expert is always needed to embed the organization process. You may see, previously the CRM development projects last for years and years with half yearly releases or quarterly releases. of course that depends on the viability of the requirements and the level of expertise involved.

Keep all these thing in mind when you are choosing a CRM system. "Man bought the computers to replace the human capitol. and now he is buying the clouds to replace the computers". Working with smartphones and tablet pc made easy for sales reps and fields service people which is intern connected with CRM systems.

Like I have mentioned earlier, there are certain things u are not supposed to do. Its freedom with their exception. It all depends on the service provider.

I am looking forward to your thoughts on these points.
